Cats: Self-Appointed Companions

Halloween is just around the corner and whether you love or hate cats, there are depictions of them everywhere. Unlike dogs, domesticated by humans, cats moved themselves in. Their utility and companionship made a place for them in the human world. They have been admired and disdained for their independence, and even cat lovers sometimes despair over a cat’s “gifting” habits. What do you think of cats? Are they annoying? Admirable? Awful?
