Over the weekend we were able to witness one of the greatest shows in Hollywood. On Sunday, March 2nd, Ellen DeGeneres took the stage to host the 86th Academy Awards ceremony. The show ran splendidly without many noticeable problems, if any.
Once again, Ellen was a terrific host for the Oscars. She even pulled a stunt no one had ever seen before: ordering pizza for some of Hollywood’s most famous celebrities, to the great surprise of the delivery guy. That pizza shop has probably been getting a good deal of business!
Ellen also managed to break Twitter. Yep, her selfie with a number of celebrities actually crashed Twitter, because it was retweeted over 2 million times in such a short time period.
Besides Ellen’s escapades as host, there were plenty of other reasons to enjoy the Oscars. Musical performances and speeches stole the night as well. Everyone at NaQ had a great time watching the Oscars, and we wanted to remind everyone of some of the best quotes, jokes, and speeches from the evening.
Ellen poking fun at Bruce Dern: “A little background on Bruce. His grandfather was the governor of Utah, his great uncle was a Pulitzer prize-winning poet, and his godmother was Eleanor Roosevelt. And here you are among us tonight. What went wrong?”
Steve McQueen, director of best picture 12 Years a Slave, had this to say at the end of his speech: “I dedicate this award to all the people who have endured slavery and the 21 million people who still suffer slavery today.”
Lupita Nyong’o won best supporting actress, and some say she gave the best acceptance speech of the evening: “When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid. Thank you.”
Director Spike Jonze had this to say about his movie Her, which won best original screenplay: “Natalie crying, Brian smiling, Megan who is very shy and is hiding at the back. … All of my friends, everyone I love. We made a movie about relationships and intimacy and that’s what we shared together and so this is for all of us.”
Of course there were plenty more great quotes from the Oscars, but we’ll leave that to you to send them in!
