Michael Johns, American Idol Finalist, Passes at Age 35

Michael Johns, a well-known competitor from the 2008 American Idol singing contest, was a finalist in the contest and managed to secure a major label signing with Maverick prior to auditioning. He produced an album in 2009, and focused his career on charity work.

Michael Johns is suspected to have passed due to a blood clot in his leg. He saw a doctor on Thursday regarding an ankle injury that was causing swelling and pain to the leg.

Michael Johns’ family is “devastated by the passing of our beloved Michael, a wonderful husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend”.

Fox expressed grief as well, “Michael Johns was an incredible talent and we are deeply saddened by the news of his passing. He was a part of our American Idol family and he will be truly missed.”

David Cook, winner of the seventh season of American Idol, said, “To say I’m shocked and saddened is a gross understatement. I’m completely gutted for his family, including his wife, Stacey. I hope they can find at least some small amount of solace in the fact that he made mine and many others’ lives so much better by having known him.”

Paula Abdul, long-time judge for American Idol, said, “I’m so torn up over the news about Michael Johns. Michael was not just an amazing talent, he was an incredible human being who was so full of life that the notion of it stopping is incomprehensible to me. His echo will live on forever.”

A tweet from friend and actress, Rita Wilson, stated, “I’m so shocked and sad to hear my friend @michael_johns has passed away. A lovely man, a great voice, a beautiful wife, Stacy. Rest in peace.”

“He was a great talent and dear friend. My boys and I were devastated to hear the news,” said Nigel Lythgoe, former Executive Producer for American Idol.
