Quotes from the First Week of 2013

Hopefully all of our readers had a great holiday season, and a great New Year’s. The first week of January was full of quotes and newsworthy items said by people in all industries. We thought we’d share with you an excellent and extensive collection of the biggest stories and what people are saying about them in the beginning of 2013.

Blackrock’s Larry Fink On the recent fiscal cliff deal that narrowly was made at the beginning of 2013: “I look at this as a very bad warning sign.”

Mohammed El-Erian on the cliff deal: “Expect a very messy process coming up…content was not sufficient and there was no momentum for cooperation…fasten your seatbelts.”

Fox News made a witty quotable statement about Al Gore’s TV Station to Al-Jazeera by saying, “It’s an Emir-acle!”

Shifting to sports, one radio station (WFAN) lamented New York’s situation this year saying, “This is the first year since 2003 that there is no New York Team in the NFL playoff hunt.”

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie had a lot to say after the House failed to vote on Hurricane Sandy Relief. His full quote was “There’s only one group to blame for the continued suffering of these innocent victims: The House majority and their speaker John Boehner.” In addition he labeled the House and Boehner “selfish, duplicitous, and gutless.” Ouch – harsh words!

One New York Republican representative (Peter King) said this in regards to the failure to pass the Hurricane Sandy relief bill: ” anyone from New York or New Jersey who contributes one penny to Congressional Republicans is out of their minds. Because what they did last night was put a knife in the back of New Yorkers and New Jerseyans.”

The week was certainly lively and entertaining for all sorts of industries, from sports to politics. Looking ahead we’re sure 2013 is going to provide a great deal of quotes worth writing about – although this year we won’t have the joys of a presidential election to pick apart quote by quote.
