With 2014 fully upon us, it’s time to look back on the past year and remember the good and the bad. The world has seen a lot of changes throughout the year, some which have made our lives better and some which have made things more difficult.
One great way to remember some of the more significant events and people from 2013 is to go through our blog archive. There are plenty of relevant and important stories from the year throughout our blog and we do our best to capture these stories through the quotes of those involved.
As a tribute to the last calendar year, we wanted to ring in the New Year with some of the best quotes from 2013. So here they are:
Richard Chartres, the Bishop of London said this in regards to the passing of Margaret Thatcher: “After the storm of a life led in the heat of political controversy, there is a great calm.”
Chris Hadfield, the Canadian astronaut and captain of the space station wowed the world with his interviews and videos. He definitely captured our attention with his songs, especially David Bowie’s Space Oddity: “For here am I, sitting in a tin can. Far above the world. Planet Earth is blue and there’s nothing I can do.”
From Barack Obama’s second inauguration speech: “Our journey is not complete until our wives, our mothers and daughters, can earn a living equal to their efforts. Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law, for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well.”
Malala Yousafzai impressed the world with her speech at the UN: “I don’t know why people have divided the whole world into two groups, west and east. Education is neither eastern nor western, education is education and it’s the right of every human being.”
We hope you’ve had an excellent 2013 and that the New Year is an even better year for you. If you have any New Year’s resolutions be sure to stick to them. Also, if you know of any quotes from 2013 that you believe would fit as some of the top quotes of the year, feel free to let us know!
