Saint Patrick’s Day is a holiday celebrated by people throughout the U.S. whether they are Irish or not. For many young adults, the holiday is one of partying the day away, enjoying (quite a few) drinks with friends and family. For many others, the holiday is one of recognizing their Irish heritage and the impact that the Irish have had on the U.S. throughout its history.
This year, as all years, cities like Boston and New York are waving their green flags and raising their cups for the annual celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Some locations are wholly investing in the festivity, like the city of Chicago that used 45 pounds of vegetable dye to tint the Chicago River a bright emerald green in celebration.
While the rest of us average folk aren’t likely to fill our tubs with green water or put on parades in our back yards, we can take part in the festivities by taking at look at some of the best sayings, toasts, and blessings from and about the Irish in order to celebrate this holiday. Here at NaQ we would be remiss to not post some of these great statements.
Quotes to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day
A nice saying about Irish pride: “There are only two kinds of people in the world: the Irish and those who wish they were.”
A comical quote about alcohol: “Drink is the curse of the land. It makes you fight with your neighbor. It makes you shoot at your landlord – and it makes you miss him.”
A clever saying about life from the Irish: “May you live as long as you want and never want as long as you live.”
Some Irish Blessings:
“May God bless and keep in good health your enemies’ enemies.”
“May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light,
May good luck pursue you each morning and night.”
A Toast About Family:
“May your home always be too small to hold your friends.
Here’s to me, and here’s to you.
And here’s to love and laughter.
I’ll be true as long as you.
And not one moment after.”
